In recent years, China-Malaysia economic and trade relations have been growing steadily. To help Chinese enterprises understand the opportunities and challenges of expanding into Malaysia, on June 24, 2025, the Longan Bay Area Legal, Tax and Finance Integration Research Center, in collaboration with the Longan Guangzhou Marriage, Family and Wealth Management Department, organized a special event titled “Opportunities and Challenges for Chinese Enterprises Expanding into Malaysia in 2025”. In addition, Longan Guangzhou also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Yeoh Mazlina & Partners, aiming to strengthen collaboration and share resources.

Sha Yuchen, the founding partner of Longan Guangzhou, delivered a speech at this event. Special guests included Ms. Xu Shiling, a senior partner at Yang Ma Law Firm in Malaysia; Associate Professor Zhao Zile, from the School of International Relations and the Chinese Overseas Research Institute at Jinan University; Mr. Li Jie, an MBA tutor at the Business School of China University of Political Science and Law; Ms. Zhu Yumei, General Manager of CITIC Securities Guangzhou; and Mr. Li Dingbang, Deputy Director of the Longan Guangzhou Marriage, Family and Wealth Management Department and Deputy Director-General of the Longan Bay Area Legal, Tax and Finance Integration Research Center.

At the beginning of the event, Sha Yuchen, the founding partner of Longan Guangzhou, delivered a speech. First, he welcomed the guests warmly on behalf of all members of Longan Guangzhou. Xu Shiling presented her insights on “The Challenges Faced by Chinese Enterprises Expanding into Malaysia”. She pointed out that Chinese enterprises encounter many legal issues when expanding into Malaysia. This requires more internationalized legal services. Using her experience, she explained the geographical location, economy, culture, and language differences in Malaysia. She emphasized that due to these differences, there are also differences in contract signing, compliance standards, and business requirements. Therefore, professional legal services are essential for Chinese enterprises expanding into Malaysia. This strategic cooperation with Longan Guangzhou will provide more comprehensive assistance to Chinese enterprises from a professional and integrated perspective.

He explained the legal and judicial system in Malaysia in detail, covering its historical background, legal characteristics, judicial functions, and arbitration practices. He also discussed the legal compliance requirements for Chinese enterprises expanding into Malaysia. He emphasized that domestic lawyers play a unique role in communication, planning, and resolving disputes. Finally, he discussed the importance of integrated professional legal services for Chinese enterprises expanding into Malaysia.

Zhao Zile presented her insights on “The Family History and Practical Implications of Chinese Overseas Communities in Malaysia”. She explained the history and development of Chinese communities in Southeast Asia. She cited examples from Southeast Asia to explain the political and economic factors. She emphasized that, in the context of globalization, family wealth management requires more professional legal services. Li Jie presented his insights on “How Chinese Enterprises Can Avoid Problems and Overcome Challenges When Expanding into Malaysia”. He pointed out that common issues include company registration, location selection, labor practices, and tax payment. These issues increase the costs of expanding into Malaysia. He shared many real cases and explained them in detail. Professional legal services are essential for Chinese enterprises expanding into Malaysia. Zhu Yumei presented her insights on “The Investment Opportunities in Malaysia and Integrated Services”. She pointed out that Malaysia has great potential in technology, green industry, and tourism. She also mentioned that investment opportunities and growth rates are relatively good. To help Chinese enterprises, more comprehensive and integrated legal services are needed. China and Malaysia need to work together to provide more internationalized services.
