Dr. Li Changxu gave a presentation on “Analysis of Adolescent Psychological Behavior and Family Education Guidance”. First, he briefly introduced the common psychological and behavioral patterns during the transition from infancy to adolescence. He explained the stages of children’s cognitive development and shared eight key stages in the formation of a child’s personality: infancy (0-1.5 years old), a period of psychological conflict between trust and distrust; childhood (1.5-3 years old), a period of conflict between autonomy and shyness and doubt; early school age (3-6 years old), where active exploration behaviors, if encouraged, can lead to initiative; school age (6-12 years old), a period of desire for recognition and praise, and the development of a sense of effort; adolescence (12-18 years old), a period of conflict between self-identity and role confusion, a time when individuals first consciously answer the question “Who am I?”; early adulthood (18-25 years old), a period of conflict between intimacy and loneliness; adulthood (25-65 years old), a period of conflict between family reproduction and stagnation, career development and stagnation; old age (65 years old and above), a period of conflict between self-adjustment and despair.

Then, Dr. Li shared some psychological concepts, such as omnipotence narcissism and narcissistic trauma, object relations, parent-child attachment, and defense mechanisms. He also explained the forms of trauma in the presence of guests, such as fear during the individualization-dependent stage; anger and shame during the obedience-control stage; sadness and depression when the desire for care is not satisfied; shame or narcissistic anger during the ego-value conflict stage. Dr. Li also introduced the anxiety scale, such as the disintegration anxiety of pregnant women. Dr. Li reminded that children organize their experiences through their mother’s experiences. The mother’s presence and participation are crucial in a child’s growth process.

Finally, from an educational perspective, Dr. Li said that the methods parents use to educate children depend on the characteristics of each child, the nature of the situation, the child’s cognitive level, psychological functions, and natural laws. Additionally, Dr. Li advised all parents to be patient and not rush their children through different stages of growth. They should also continue learning, recognize the useful aspects of things, and pay attention to their own feelings.

At the end of the event, guests discussed in depth and actively debated how to enhance children’s intrinsic motivation, exploration skills, learning abilities, and the establishment of good relationships with both teachers and friends. With lively discussions, the event came to a successful conclusion!

This event “Youth’s Journey: Decoding Adolescent Behavior · Stimulating Children’s Intrinsic Motivation” attracted the active participation of alumni and colleagues from law firms at Guangdong University of Technology. It is important for parents to better understand the psychological and behavioral motivations and principles of adolescence, thereby reducing their educational anxiety. So far, Longan Guangzhou has organized activities related to beauty education, first aid knowledge, and mental health. In the future, the law firm will also collaborate with external resources to organize more activities that are popular among lawyers.
