Year after year, it’s Chongyang. Once again, it’s Chongyang. In response to the “Respecting the Elderly Month” activity organized by the Guangzhou Lawyers Association in 2025, in order to promote the traditional virtues of filial piety and respect for the elderly, on the morning of October 26th at 10 a.m., Lawyer Chi Meng, a senior partner at Longan (Guangzhou) Law Firm in Beijing and a member of the Party General Branch Discipline Committee, Lawyer Cai Jiaxin, a partner at Longan Guangzhou, a member of the Party General Branch Publicity Committee and the director of the Public Welfare Committee, together with representatives from the Dagang Town Women’s Federation and Ms. Peng Hui, the president of the Nansha District Women’s Volunteer Promotion Association in Guangzhou, went to a village in Dagang Town, Nansha District, to visit the family of elderly people in need, Aunt Zhang.
1. A difficult but warm family: Needs “visible help”
Aunt Zhang is 56 years old and has two sons. In 2019, her husband passed away due to illness; in 2020, her eldest son fell ill and died, leaving two minor grandchildren, who are raised by her daughter-in-law alone. Now, Aunt Zhang lives with her youngest son, and her daughter-in-law brings the grandchildren back home on weekends. The family’s main source of income comes from farming, and production decreases when the weather is bad. The youngest son works outside and earns only over 3,000 yuan per month, barely covering living expenses. Although Aunt Zhang tries her best to help her daughter-in-law and grandchildren, as she watches her grandson grow up day by day, she is always worried about “what will happen in the future.”
2. Heartfelt visit: Protecting the elderly with “law and emotion”
At 10 a.m., everyone brought gifts such as rice, oil, specialty foods, and books to visit Aunt Zhang’s home. As soon as they entered, President Peng Hui took Aunt Zhang’s hand and said, “Auntie, we came to see you. How are you?” Aunt Zhang smiled and invited them to sit down, pointing to the dishes on the table and saying, “My daughter-in-law and grandchildren will come back later for dinner. I just cooked some vegetables they like.”
Lawyer Cai Jiaxin looked at the wall where the grandson was painting, praising his talent in drawing. She asked the grandson, “Is mommy your good friend?” After receiving a positive response from the grandson, she talked with her daughter-in-law about raising the child: “The child is in adolescence. We need to pay more attention to his mental state. If there are any problems, you can always consult us.” Lawyer Chi Meng patiently answered legal questions, such as those related to applications for subsistence benefits.
After the event, the family of Aunt Zhang began to smile, as if they had more hope for life, and expressed their gratitude for the visit.
3. The responsibility of lawyers: Spreading warmth through expertise
This visit not only provided material support to Aunt Zhang’s family but also used legal knowledge to protect their lives. Lawyer Cai Jiaxin helped her daughter-in-law solve problems related to raising the child. Longan Guangzhou Law Firm always adheres to the principle of “law for the people,” actively participating in public welfare activities, and using professional knowledge and kindness to spread positive energy. This shows the social responsibility and mission of Longan lawyers.
We welcome all lawyers who are interested in public welfare to participate in Longan Guangzhou’s public welfare activities. We will continue to care for those in need and help more people in need. Let’s contribute to building a harmonious society!
Special thanks to President Peng Hui and her team from the Nansha District Women’s Volunteer Promotion Association in Guangzhou for their support, which makes Longan Guangzhou’s efforts even more meaningful!
