During the presentation on How to Read a Book, Lawyer Liu Qingwei explained it from four perspectives: one main theme, two key points, three core aspects, and four levels.
The book focuses on the main theme of “How to Read a Book?” In simple terms, it involves asking questions and then answering them. The book suggests that we should read a book by asking four questions.
Two key points: First, it’s about the art of reading. We should develop the habit of asking four questions, so that we can answer them accurately. This skill is called the art of reading. Second, it’s about active reading. “The more active you are in reading, the better the results.”
Three core aspects include: 1. The purpose of reading – to obtain information or to improve understanding. “Too much information is like too little information; it hinders understanding. Modern media provide too much information, which hinders our ability to understand.” 2. The speed of reading. “Ideally, it’s not just about reading quickly, but also about using different speeds. You need to know when to use which speed.” 3. The levels of reading, including basic reading, critical reading, analytical reading, and thematic reading.
Lawyer Liu said that How to Read a Book should be read at least twice. The first time, read it in the usual way. The second time, learn the methods from the book, from theory to practice, so that you truly understand how to read a book.
