On August 21, 2025, in order to promote professional exchanges among Longan lawyers in the field of criminal defense, strengthen business cooperation, and enhance professional capabilities, the Longan Guangzhou Youth Lawyers Department specially invited Lawyer Luo Jie, a senior partner in Longan Guangzhou and deputy director兼 secretary-general of the Longan Bay Area Criminal Prevention and Control Research Center, to conduct the twelfth session of the Jixinghui event and a series of specialized presentations on criminal defense (Part 3). This event focused on defense skills for lawyers in court, key points in summarizing evidence in criminal cases, and the analysis of acquittal cases, attracting many young lawyers from the firm to participate actively. Lawyer Liu Huan, a senior partner in Longan Guangzhou and a member of the Youth Lawyers Department, served as the host of this event.

Lawyer Liu Huan first welcomed the lawyers who actively participated in this event. She said that this series of specialized presentations on criminal defense was jointly organized by the Longan Bay Area Criminal Prevention and Control Research Center and the Longan Guangzhou Youth Lawyers Department. The aim was to provide professional guidance and practical advice to young lawyers in Longan through the sharing of experience by senior criminal defense lawyers. At the same time, Lawyer Liu mentioned that she greatly welcomed various series of activities in different professional fields organized by the research centers and the Youth Lawyers Department in the Longan Bay Area, which could provide stronger support for the growth of young lawyers in Longan.

Lawyer Luo Jie

Lawyer Luo Jie presented a sharing session on “Strategies for Effective Defense in Court”. He first discussed how to effectively interpret the indictment, preparations for court proceedings, how the prosecutor and defense attorney should ask questions during the trial, how lawyers should conduct effective cross-examination during the trial, the application of evidence rules, and key points of courtroom debate. He also explained and analyzed these topics using relevant cases. Lawyer Luo mentioned that it is necessary to rely on typical guiding cases, reference cases, criminal justice policies, and the understanding and application of judicial interpretations by judges from the Supreme People’s Court, as well as policies issued by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, to enrich one’s defense arguments. Then, Lawyer Luo used cases of acquittal to illustrate how lawyers should effectively defend against issues such as evidence, facts, or law during the trial.

Interactive Exchange

During the interactive exchange session, under the host of Lawyer Liu Huan, Lawyer Luo Jie and the present lawyers discussed strategies for dealing with repeated testimony from multiple witnesses and the sentencing levels for plea agreements.

This series of specialized presentations on criminal defense was organized by the Longan Guangzhou Youth Lawyers Department and the Longan Bay Area Criminal Prevention and Control Research Center. Through the in-depth sharing of experience by senior criminal defense lawyers, it helps to improve the practical capabilities of young lawyers in core aspects such as court appearances, evidence analysis, and acquittal defense. It also provides a high-quality learning and exchange platform for young lawyers, promoting the development of the criminal business team in the firm. This event is the twelfth session of the Jixinghui event in Longan Guangzhou. In the future, Longan Guangzhou will continue to carry out specialized training programs to facilitate the rapid growth and professional development of young lawyers, providing better and more efficient legal services to clients.
