Recently, a special sharing event titled “Investment Risk Prevention in Southeast Asia and Opportunities for Lawyers to Operate Abroad”, hosted by Guangdong Wenzhang Law Firm, was successfully held in Dongguan. Jin Li, a partner at Beijing Longan (Guangzhou) Law Firm and Director of the Longan Bay ASEAN Law Research Center, was invited to serve as the keynote speaker. With her extensive practical experience in the Southeast Asian market, she delivered a valuable and practical sharing session for the attendees.

During this sharing session, Lawyer Jin Li spent nearly two hours discussing key topics such as core investment risks in Southeast Asia, the development of foreign-related businesses, and the growth of young lawyers.

At the beginning of the sharing, Lawyer Jin Li used her personal experiences to analyze the common risks associated with investment in Southeast Asia. She pointed out that translation software for minor Southeast Asian languages often has low accuracy. Additionally, the legal systems in some countries are not well-developed, and regulations are updated slowly, which makes it difficult for Chinese investors to access information. She also emphasized that the logic of domestic relationships should not be used to evaluate Southeast Asian business partnerships. Relationships with fellow locals, acquaintances, or political figures cannot serve as a basis for trust in cooperation; instead, thorough due diligence should be carried out in advance. Regarding the significant currency fluctuations in many Southeast Asian countries, Lawyer Jin Li provided practical advice on choosing settlement currencies and locking in exchange rates using real cases.

In the investment opportunity analysis section, Lawyer Jin Li combined official data and practical experience to outline the investment advantages of ASEAN countries such as Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. She also highlighted the pitfalls and precautions for investing in different countries, providing guidance for lawyers serving clients who operate abroad.

Regarding young lawyers seeking to develop foreign-related businesses, Lawyer Jin Li outlined three models of foreign-related legal services. She emphasized that foreign-related businesses require a long-term perspective and resilience in dealing with market fluctuations. Lawyer Jin Li suggested that foreign-related lawyers should not only be legal professionals but also play a role in cross-cultural communication and project management. She provided guidance for young lawyers on aspects such as team selection, language skills, customer maintenance, and resource accumulation.

This sharing session was practical and professional. With her solid professional knowledge and rich cross-border experience, Lawyer Jin Li provided clear guidance for enterprises to mitigate risks and expand foreign-related services. In the future, Longan Guangzhou will continue to leverage its professional strengths to encourage and support lawyers in developing foreign-related legal services. With more solid professional skills and practical service solutions, Longan will contribute to cross-border economic cooperation and legal exchanges.
