On February 13, 2025, in order to better understand the application of artificial intelligence in legal services and enhance lawyers’ skills in using and exchanging with AI tools, Longan Guangzhou Law Firm, in collaboration with the Longan Bay Artificial Intelligence Law Research Center, organized a special sharing event titled “How Lawyers Use DeepSeek to Handle Cases Efficiently.” This event featured keynote speeches by Chen Huan, Director of the Longan Bay Artificial Intelligence Law Research Center and author of The Guide to Using ChatGPT by Lawyers, and Li Boyang, Senior Advisor of the Longan Bay Artificial Intelligence Law Research Center and author of The Guide to Using ChatGPT by Lawyers. The event attracted the active participation of many professionals both online and offline.
Chen Huan, Lawyer
Director of the Longan Bay Artificial Intelligence Law Research Center and author of The Guide to Using ChatGPT by Lawyers
Chen Huan, the lawyer, focused on the theme of “10 Scenarios and Practical Applications of Lawyers Using AI.” He first demonstrated the capabilities of artificial intelligence in tasks such as image processing, video generation, and the use of digital humans through a series of images and videos, and then analyzed the impact of AI on various industries and professions using data. Lawyer Chen said that he hopes this course will help lawyers become experts in artificial intelligence. Regarding prompts for AI queries, Chen summarized a simple prompt formula: define the role, provide context, and state the requirements. However, he noted that this formula is not absolute—the key is to clearly communicate one’s needs to the AI. In the legal industry, information gaps are disappearing, and lawyers must engage in debates with AI and convince clients that lawyers are superior to AI. Then, Chen showed examples of efficient and practical AI tools for web translation, document review, online search, PPT creation, and video evidence presentation. He emphasized that in the era of artificial intelligence, every lawyer should understand the limits of AI tools and use them properly. In the future, apart from mastering the skills of using AI tools, the most important thing is to build one’s own database.
Li Boyang, Lawyer
Senior Advisor of the Longan Bay Artificial Intelligence Law Research Center and author of The Guide to Using ChatGPT by Lawyers
Li Boyang, the lawyer, focused on the theme of “Tips and Mistakes in Using DeepSeek.” He first pointed out common mistakes people make when using DeepSeek. For example, people mistakenly believe that DeepSeek can analyze all evidence texts and has strong legal analysis capabilities. Lawyer Li said that DeepSeek is currently just a useful AI tool, not a comprehensive one. He then compared DeepSeek-V3 (the general model) and DeepSeek-R1 (the reasoning model), recommending that people choose the appropriate model based on their needs. Regarding basic application techniques, Lawyer Li suggested using concise and precise language to express questions, especially when writing prompts. If the prompts are too vague, the AI may invent details to fill in the gaps. Additionally, Lawyer Li shared techniques for using XML tags in prompts, using DeepSeek’s HTML output function to create charts and tables, and compared the advantages and disadvantages of using AI for online searches. He also discussed the use of APIs and the environment suitable for personal databases. Lawyer Li said that this sharing aimed to discuss the applicable scope, key points, and limitations of DeepSeek, so that people could “disenchant” themselves: although DeepSeek is powerful, it is not a universal tool, and there is no need to be overly anxious. Finally, he concluded: “Programming is a skill that everyone in the AI era should learn.”
Interactive Discussion
During the interactive discussion, Lawyers Chen Huan and Li Boyang engaged in lively discussions with the attendees regarding the application and limitations of programming in the AI era, as well as the security of AI input content.
This special sharing event on “How Lawyers Use DeepSeek to Handle Cases Efficiently” provided a valuable opportunity for professionals from various fields and law firms in the Longan Bay area to understand better the application of artificial intelligence in legal services. Through real cases and practical demonstrations, it showed the great potential of AI tools in improving case handling efficiency and optimizing work processes. The introduction of AI technology not only helps lawyers quickly process large amounts of information and accurately analyze cases, but also significantly reduces the time required for case handling, providing clients with more efficient and high-quality legal services.
As artificial intelligence technology continues to develop, its application in legal services will become more extensive and deep. In the future, Longan Guangzhou Law Firm will continue to explore the integration of AI and legal services, promote industry innovation, and provide more intelligent and personalized legal services to clients, contributing to the construction and development of a legal society.
