Recently, the Longan Bay Area Legal, Finance, and Taxation Integration Research Center visited UBS Insurance in Hong Kong to conduct a special presentation on cross-border wealth management and inheritance. The presentation was given by Lawyer Li Dingbang, Deputy Director of the Longan Bay Area Legal, Finance, and Taxation Integration Research Center and Deputy Director of the Longan Guangzhou Marriage and Family Affairs Department. Also present were Advisor Dai Wenjun, Senior Advisor of the Longan Bay Area Legal, Finance, and Taxation Integration Research Center and Taxation Advisor in Longan Guangzhou.

Lawyer Li Dingbang mainly discussed the allocation of benefits from Hong Kong insurance in mainland divorce disputes. Based on practical cases, he analyzed how the cash value, premiums, and insurance benefits from insurance policies are distributed among the policyholder, the insured, and the beneficiary in mainland divorce disputes, highlighting the key points and shortcomings of current regulations. Then, Lawyer Li Dingbang focused on the implementation methods and procedures of mainland insurance, pointing out potential drawbacks in the isolation effect of current mainland insurance. Finally, he analyzed the operation of Hong Kong insurance in mainland judicial cases, and combined with the latest regulations on the recognition and enforcement of civil and commercial judgments between China and Hong Kong, he further clarified the differences between Hong Kong insurance and mainland insurance. From a legal perspective, he provided professional advice on how mainland insurance and Hong Kong insurance can promote and integrate with each other.

Based on previous presentations on trusts, foreign exchange, and taxation, Advisor Dai Wenjun explained the overall framework of entrepreneurs’ cross-border wealth management. He also shared his views on the comprehensive application of cross-border tools and the establishment of structures for multiple objectives. He suggested that entrepreneurs should seize the opportunities brought by the integration of the Greater Bay Area with a broader perspective, and achieve sustainable development while ensuring compliance.

After the presentation, UBS Insurance in Hong Kong recognized the professionalism of the Longan Bay Area Legal, Finance, and Taxation Integration Research Center. The two parties also discussed topics related to wealth management and inheritance, such as marriage and family affairs and insurance trusts. They agreed that it is necessary to strengthen communication and cooperation between mainland law firms, insurance companies, trusts, and relevant institutions in Hong Kong, so as to improve the professional services in legal, finance, and taxation integration, and ensure the safety and effectiveness of entrepreneurs’ asset allocation.

Since its establishment on March 15, 2024, the Longan Bay Area Legal, Finance, and Taxation Integration Research Center has been committed to integrating legal resources in the Longan Bay Area and enhancing the level of professional services in legal, finance, and taxation integration. Lawyer Li Dingbang

Lawyer Li Dingbang is Deputy Director and Secretary-General of the Longan Bay Area Legal, Finance, and Taxation Integration Research Center, Deputy Director of the Marriage and Family Affairs Department of Beijing Longan (Guangzhou) Law Firm, Deputy Secretary-General of the Liwan Pop Music Association in Guangzhou, a permanent member of the Guangzhou Public Finance and Financial Innovation Development Center, and a member of the Chinese Will Library. He graduated from China University of Political Science and Law with a master’s degree in civil and commercial law. He participated in the formulation of the general provisions and guarantee systems of the Civil Code. He also studied at Columbia Law School. He has received many awards at national and provincial levels, including the National Civil and Commercial Law Doctoral Forum and the Hubei Civil Law Research Association. He has published more than ten papers on law and united front issues in academic and practical journals such as Tsinghua Law Review, Guangdong Lawyers, and Insurance Theory and Practice. He completed the second session of the Guangdong Greater Bay Area Hong Kong-Macao Zone Foreign Lawyers Training Program and received the “Outstanding Debater” award in the mock arbitration competition, as well as the first prize in English writing.

Since starting his practice, he has focused on family/private wealth management and inheritance, with a focus on corporate governance, financial guarantees, marriage and family affairs, trusts and insurance disputes, and foreign-related issues. He has long worked in foreign-related legal areas such as Hong Kong and California, USA. English is his working language.

Advisor Dai Wenjun

Advisor Dai Wenjun holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Sun Yat-sen University, a master’s degree in accounting, and is a tax agent. She is currently a tax advisor at Beijing Longan (Guangzhou) Law Firm and a senior advisor and deputy secretary-general of the Longan Bay Area Legal, Finance, and Taxation Integration Research Center.

She has worked for a tax bureau for a long time, mainly involved in the management of the Golden Tax System, tax inspections, and international tax management. She has participated in the development of tax risk indicator systems, anti-tax agreement abuse, and general anti-tax avoidance management. She is familiar with the tax authorities’ operations and has extensive experience in tax risk management. Later, as a partner in a tax agent firm, she provides systematic tax compliance and optimization services for entrepreneurs and their industrial groups, including tax identity planning, cross-border structures, capital operation design, and industrial chain optimization. She has comprehensive services in legal and tax integration.
